Behind Moonchi

Moonchi took root towards the end of 2020, yet at that juncture, it lacked a distinct brand identity. The seed was planted, and it began to really sprout in April 2022. Moonchi is special to my heart because it's not just about cute crochet collections. It's my way of sharing who I am and the journey I'm on. It's a bit like the weather – always changing.

Moonchi is more than just a brand; it's an experience, an embodiment of resilience, love, and the unique spirit of motherhood.

Owned by a mother, crafted for the mothers. My mission is to support talented women in South Africa economically, surpassing what the government can provide them. I specifically seek out motivated and trustworthy mothers, affectionately termed "retired mothers." I would like to make a real impact where it matters most.

Why only mothers? Because only a mother truly comprehends the intricate dance of joys and risks involved in creating toys for their little ones.

Join us in this journey – a journey that's not just about purchasing a product but becoming part of a family. Moonchi is a community, an expression of the enduring strength and love that defines motherhood.

  • Noémie - the founder

What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?

Leaving everything and everyone I have ever known to start a new life in South Africa.

Note from a mom to a mom:
On your newborn birth-day, you also birthed a new version of yourself, the mother. Be gentle with yourself. Nurture your woman and don't lose her into motherhood.
  • Daphne - cotton fairy

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

I would travel to a couple of places. Portugal fascinated me. The people and the beautiful handwork they do. Also I’d fil up on my favourites - pastei de nata Yum. The other place a bit dicey at the moment is Israel, the Holy Land. The people are some of the most creative innovative in the world.

    Note from a mom:
Simple, love, enjoy and spend time with your children. They are young for such a short time.
  • Julia - cotton fairy

If money was no object, what would you do all day?

I'd spend all day crocheting, reading, baking, traveling and playing with my grandkids.

    Note from a mom:
Don't sweat the small stuff. Pick your battles. Jump in muddy puddles, crayon on the walls, and fill the days with hugs and cuddles because the time flies by so fast before you know they have grown and gone out of the house.
  • Bernie - velluto fairy

What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?

I'm not sure if starting my own small business counts for much, but it's been a dream of mine to work for myself, and so far this has been a fantastic year. From outsourcing my crochet skills, to crafting and making junk journals and everything in between, I've been very fortunate and blessed to have met wonderful people along the way.

Note from a mom: Never doubt yourself, only You Know what's best for Your child, and don't allow anyone else to tell you how to raise them.
